New Blood
I guess it is defiantly time for an update and a compiling of events into a post! Many photo shoots and a few web sites in development.
One thing I’m extremely happy about is the Fankie photo shoot. My first multi-national editorial pic!
The very morning it hit the shelves I received a txt that it was out, and within minutes I was there to pic up a copy. I didn’t think it was going to be a full page!!
I was so nervous taking the shot because it was my first shoot with my then brand new Canon 5D MarkII. I had gone straight online and rented a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L and a Canon 580EX II to make sure that I got what I needed and the day after it arrived I went for it — and I’m stoked with the results!

Bite Me!
I’ve been cooking (And photographing), and it’s time to share! This decadence is simply sweet!
Creamy, sweet and oh so easy!
And that’s what I’m all about when it come to being in the kitchen — just simplicity as much as possible! And this creation was inspired by a Woolworths: Good Taste magazine recipe; Strawberry & Vanilla Custard Slice. Same name, slightly different.

So Long, Farewell
Sadly I’ve decided to get rid of my backup gear – Canon 450D.
Since my 5D is quite heavily insured (As anyone should for it’s price tag) I’m making some room in my camera bag so it doesn’t weigh like my old high school one — BLOODY TEXT BOOKS!!
I’ve got some keen buyers, but if you’re also keen just give me a holla at info [at] the-mil.com. Everything in top condition (Par the very cheap plastic ’silver’ decorative lining on the lens). Tagging it at AUSD $850.
Locally only

1x Canon 450D, 5x Batteries, 1x Battery Grip, 1x Miniature Tripod, 1x 18-55mm f/3.8-5.6 Kit Lens, 2x HOYA Filters, 1x Local and Wireless Trigger, 1x Flash Defuser and 1x Charging dock (UK/Singapore plug connection – Will include universal plug). Also my 4 & 8 gig SanDisc SD cards.

A Full Frame
This was VERY premature; one thing lead to another and then 4 days later I have a solid Canon 5D Mark II sitting right next to me (Literally as I type this).
First impressions are always ever lasting and thats why this one will be staying with me for a long time!
No matter what shot a took – the 5D Mark II pretty well impressed me hands down. The solid magnesium build sits so comfortably and the amount of differentiating settings makes it a snap for any situation (Woo — BIG WORD!). For example, the amount of extra ISO setting compared to the the 450D’s is astounding! 6 (including auto) on the 450D vs the whopping 20 different stops really blew me away for one. Also the amount of stops in the in Manual Mode sofened my frustation especially when the jumps between stops were too big for when you needed it eg. A jump from say 300-500 wasn’t what I needed when one was underexposed and the other overexposed. So a 400 stop was needed but not possible! Well, only if there was no was of softening or increasing the light.

A Purple Shine
The other night I got a chance to use the Canon 70-200 f/4 that I’ve got for about 2 weeks for a client’s photoshoot which is being held around Thursday/Friday (Pretty much when my 5D Mark II will show up — YAY!).
So before my sister was about to toddle off to bed I snagged her for a few shots and liked how they came out.
Since I don’t have a flash on hand any more I just had to improvise with pretty much every ceiling and pedestal light in the house switched on.
Also I don’t know where it came from but my brother got his hands on some purple celefane and placed it over the body light so it was mainly the background was purple and not so much the subject.
Quite impressed with the results and would love to get to use this lens even more; and I will defiantly use it on the 5D Mark II and get back to y’all. My 450D isn’t crash hot with that fantastic lens indoors unless there is a massive amount of light – a very good outdoor lens because of the amount of light that pretty much floods every surface. Love it!

It’s Business Time
Business Time, Crunch Time or just plane old… time…
Things have been pretty good on my end the past few months with a build up of clients for myself and working for a company that seems to get more intense with work flow every month. A slowing down of the tweets and the drinking with mates… Well kinda’ dead but even during press – wanting to kill someone while you’re working off the morning head-thrill, carrying a coffee and still got your sunnies on when you’re inside is still somewhat appetising — Who knew?!

Food for Thought
As I’m trying to get back on my thinking cap when I comes down to delectable delights to share to the public, I thought I might go on and put my arms up, and say “It’s about time!”
Tonight I went pretty hard in the kitchen and – well… mains didn’t got too well so I’m willing to share dessert for the moment.
Though this isn’t my own recipe; I’m just pushing myself to make it a habit of recording my ‘cookings’ and whip out the ol’ camera, set things up, and click away.

The Virgin Strobist
Yes, it’s true! I’m quite the virgin when it comes to being a user of the humble flash!
Recently I thought I’ll get in there and rent a nice little Canon 50mm f/1.4 along with a 580 EXII and see how I went on my own for a little bit… and had some interesting turn outs!
After fiddling with a few settings, then realising that one of the people that had been informing me about those setting used a Nikon (Was pretty much backwards – cos we all know Canons rock-socks!), and I had to pretty much go from there!
On of the hardest things when trying to even become a ‘amateur strobist’ is finding out your settings!
No one place I could really find how to get your settings right… So, first bit of knowledge is using M or Manual! And it’s pretty much smooth sailing from there!

An ‘08 to Remember
We can all say that we have our resolutions for the year in and year out, this and thats and this year will be different type scenarios… And well, to be frank; I have to say I too am getting on that band-wagon too!
‘08 was good in it’s ways but we are glad to say good bye to it!
We’ve all had our problems, disasters and well, I guess some pinnacles of bliss (Thankfully I had more then 2 at least). But I really do hope for all this new year will bring a change.
Change not only around us but with others…
We’ve seen change world wide with new elections, economic downfalls (and rises) and me finally getting a blog off the ground – which I’m willing to say are the 3 most important events of 2008 ever! (I’m serial!)
I hope to travel around again this year and meet a few more people out there and blog a bit more. This year I’m aiming heavily for a trip to North America as a whole or just Canada if need be.
I do hope everyone a FANTASTIC and enjoyable year. Be safe – but crazy, be friendly – but sharp and be on-top of it – but just relax ay!
See you around in 2009.
Peace
